I like the comment by Kustjagr: it is spot on. It has a distinct character of its own and a Pomerol without doubt. I preferred the 2016 as being slightly more complex, but this could easily change over the next years.

New world merlot, of which I am fan, can never even approach these Pomerols. Instead of blunt fruit, this one has density, staying power, acidicity and complexity at an entirely different level. While that one movie gave US West Coast merlot a bad name, many of the best wines in the world are pomerols made out of merlot. This one is a little on the young side still, but already a delight.
Young but has a nice complexity to it. Every hour the wine was different on the nose. As for taste, the wine is elegant despite its alcohol content. Typical merlot but at times with a hint of brett.
Went quite well with a wagyu ribeye A5.

Open and ready for business, rich and full body filled with black berries, figs, pencil shavings, nice complexity, oaky sweet flavuors but combined with the rich fruit and fresh acidity this works well, modern and classic at the same time but leans more to the latter, surprisingly good and enjoyable but will get better with time.
