  • This was only about $12 so lets make that clear before we start talking about the wine. Dark red to plum with tawny hints, the nose shows oak and soft cassis, plus pencil shavings perhaps. Not terribly complex. The palate is soft and round, with cassis and plums replaced after some time in the decanter with some sweeter red fruits. Quaffable but lacks the acid and drive for any further development. If you have any, drink now! Decent QPR.

  • Very nice depth and concentration for a wine at this price point. Glass staining rich purple color. Inviting nose of sweet blackberry, currant, and some violets. The fruit is not as intense as the color, but still delivers a chunky, but pretty refined and complete mouth coating array of black berry, cherry, and even some red raspberry. The roof of the mouth has a taste of red licorice and cranberry. The fruit is some what coated in minerals and tannins. Solid mid palate. There is a big hit of not so refined acid. By now the oak has settled a bit. The finish has some of that reductive characteristic. Even though there is plenty of acid and tannin, I get the feeling that now is about as this wine is going to get. As he glass gets some air, a nice taste of vanilla and caramel emerges past the acid and tannins, so maybe this one could use some more time.
