Highly extracted, juicy and unctious...almost port-like and explosively delicious, with aromas and flavors of boysenberry, brandied fruit, and dark chocolate, with slight hints of toasty oak on the finish. Heavy-handedly New World in its jammy style, but for New World afficionados this is a trememdously enjoyable wine. This was my second tasting of this wine, after a year (see May 2008 tasting note), and my impressions were consistent.

Bright, effusive aromas of vanilla and spice transition to round, generous flavors of dried black fruits, earth, and oak, with just a dusting of tobacco. This is a concentrated and intense wine that is assertively forward in every respect, but has enough structure to keep it firm on the palate. For those who appreciate the big, extracted California style -- you will love this wine. For those who want a Syrah to serve with food -- be forewarned: this could overwhelm all but the heaviest dishes.

Deep purple color. Rich, fatty texture and full-bodied with prune-like flavors. Very Californian.
