It is often said that with older wines there are no great vintages, only great bottles. This was a great bottle. The cork was depressed, and I immediately managed to push it into the bottle. A coffee filter and a decant eliminated all debris, and the first sip revealed an old wine very much alive. Iron on the nose and palate, possessing great acidity. Tannin tamed by the ages. Elegant and complex. Pinot noir fruit had morphed into very interesting savory flavors. Drunk in Charleston with my wife, brother, and sister in law to celebrate joint 50 year wedding anniversaries. This wine will probably last a few more years, but it is past peak. If you have this in your cellar, drink up.

Deep garnet color; autumnal notes, sous bois and brown sugar; haunting size and structure still; while not quite as complex as the nose, the palate is surprisingly full and rich with dark red mature fruits. Continued to open up nicely after a half hour, tempting me to raise the score another point.

Pale, very pale, almost transparent color, on the nose, it is mushrooms and dust, on the palate the fruit is still showing and the structure is sound. It is a delicious old Burgundy with a long finish. The wine falls apart after about an hour but that's enough time for us to enjoy it

Rather pale, but only moderate browning. Decanted only briefly and served. Lovely bouquet of flowers and earth. Silky smooth, integrated tannins. Moderate red fruit. Elegant. Lovely. Shows age in the integration of flavors but none of the funky flaws that can arise. This was a perfectly stored bottle that never left Remoissenet that was probably still not far from its peak. I would think most bottles are past their peak.
This rating is probably a bit biased for it had the added aura of occurring at Maison Remoissenet where, while touring the cellars, Bernard Repolt heard a friend notice the cache of this wine in a nook and commented to my wife "Look it's your name!" and my wife replied, "Yes, and it is the year I..." Bernard stealthily pulled a bottle from the cave and shared it with us at the end of the tour! A bottle to remember forever!

Beautiful floral and earthy nose. Aged Pinot, but strongly red fruited, too. Palate is rather remarkably vibrant for 43 yr old, even a CSJ. It's almost sappy upfront with really deft touchof acidity. Excellent balance and poise. Some strength and finesse. Really tasty. Now, what's in the bottle?
