(RISERVA Soldera Case Basse Brunello) Soldera Dear Friends, This is our annual Soldera offer and it's the vintage most of our collector friends have been waiting for - 2001. As one of the world's most revered and rarest wines, I've followed the portfolio of Soldera since the mid 1980s and am always eager to pull old vintages from my personal cellar for Garagiste events (I believe we tasted the 1983, 1985 and 1988 Riserva at one of the Per Se holiday events several years ago). While the wine can be polarizing in youth, with the requisite age, Soldera Riserva is one of the world's greatest wines. In reference to the above Per Se event, the 1985 Riserva went head to head with the 1985 Margaux (one of my favorite wines for its supreme elegance) and it was no contest. I consumed the 2001 Riserva a few days ago (Saturday night) with a bottle of 2001 Edoardo Valentini Montepulciano and a host of other treats at Paolo's (notes to follow on the Forum and via twitter). The Valentini was literally alive - it churned and bubbled for almost 6 hours before opening into an ethereal beverage. The Soldera was like a solid mountain of incredible breed and mystery. It took even longer to unfold but once it did the cascading layers of feminine fruit were so packed with detail and length that the wine most certainly has a chance to equal the 1983 in time. Those in attendance shook their head at both wines - all of us were humbled by the experience...and I haven't even mentioned the cooking yet. If you are willing to give this Brunello at least 15-20 years in the cellar, the 2001 Soldera Riserva is VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. If you need to drink it sooner, the wine will be lost in translation. Think of it as 2005 Latour - a wine you are in no hurry to open. If you are purchasing strictly as an investment, the 2001 is sure to have the acclaim of the vintage follow it for decades: VERY RARE - only 10 cases for the entire US market (most are for NY restaurants) This parcel has impeccable provenance - it has been perfectly stored since release: 2001 Soldera Brunello di Montalcino (Case Basse) Riserva . Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy5663
