  • A fading beauty; notes tonight very consistent with mine of October 2020. Two years at most of drinking interest, if not pleasure. Mild oxidation. Glad I have only one bottle left. It was great tonight with cherrywood grilled oysters, over smoked fennel purée, and a buttery pineapple habanero pepper sauce.

  • Gold amber color, clearly in a late stage of evolution. Pear skins, oak, and apricot on the nose. A challenging but ultimately delicious palate: honey, apricots, almond oil, and sweet red grapefruit. Fairly long, with yellow stone fruit pit bitterness. I liked it with a creamy seafood risotto, although a smokey aged gouda would be perfect. There’s enough acidity left to keep this enticing. Should drink well for a few more years, but, again, you have to like secondary flavors, and lose expectations based on how this drank five years ago. Let it open and warm for 30 minutes before drinking at 55.

  • This was a bit of dissapointment for me. I've had his Condrieu and reds before and have to say they were top notch, but this left me a bit cold. It's a blend of 90% Marsanne and 10% Roussanne raised in 25% new and 75% 1-2 year 300-litre oak barrels for 9-10 months. Nose has ripe apricot and honey with vanilla and spice from the oak. Full bodied with ripe fruit, vanilla and hazelnut and also there is a bit gras. This doesn't have the same fresshness that some top St-Jo Blancs (like Aurelien Chatagnier or Gonon). All this gras, oak and lack of freshness combined with 14° alcohol wasn't my cup of tea. Don't really know if there is any market outside US for oaky St-Jo Blanc and with 50€ price tag (more than Gonon's Les Oliviers) this is something I really can't recommend to anyone who likes old school Northern Rhone whites.

  • HDH Burgundy Auction (Chicago, IL): For a Rhone white, this is actually fairly convincing. The nose shows a light bit of reduction, as well as perfumed florals and peachy white fruit. The palate is quite dense, with many of the same characteristics as the nose. Waxy, but with redeeming acidity, this isn't oily or thick at all.

  • A wonderfully rich, silky textured and well balanced wine with a good acidity. Medium to big body; this 85% Marsanne 15% Roussanne shows apricot, peach fruit aromas in a gentle bouquet that also includes hazelnuts, citrus peel, vanilla, jasmin, fennel, ginger and toast. A perfect match with goat cheese or a medium Roquefort blue cheese.
