I am a fan of Steve Matthiasson's wines, but this one was a bit of a miss. It had all the right elements, and felt a bit like the Loire in California, but there was no depth. Cherry fruit and tobacco leaf aromas turned to a thin mid-palate and notable bitterness on the finish. It seems as though this was picked too early, promoting stylistic idealism (12.2% alcohol) over flavor development.
