Visit to Woodlands, Margaret River. I have read a lot about Woodlands, however overall this was quite a disssapointing visit, wines lacked any sort of drive; quite linear and weak in the mid-palate, and even though they were well made they all missed a little something. The Woodlands Cabernet Sauvignon was probably the highlight, however at $229 AUD it was a hard pass. At $100 this would be an easy buy .
Finally! Easily the best wine tasted at Woodlands, 100% New French Oak for 24 months, this easily helped with the structure of the wine, I was expecting for this to be super oaky but the oak is already very well integrated showing cassis, blackcurrant, cacao , cedar, black pepper, eucalyptus, violets, Palate is wonderfully layered, dark juicy fruits, mocha, dusty tannins, palate is creamy and velvety with a nice persistence throughout! Will drink nicely over the next 10ish years.
