Community Tasting Notes (5)

  • From Coravin. Pretty and jubey blue and black berry fruits, slight savoury underpin, a little almost sweet spice despite no oak. Juicy, fleshy, a little textured burr but, for this first time, this is showing the tiniest bit of volatility to accompany the brambly fruit. I will need to drink rapidly and monitor.

  • Had this after the Paringa to see how it stood up (19C/splash decanted again)...surprisingly (& pleasingly) well - fresh blue and black fruits, meaty savoury notes and a tiny peppery hint in support, fleshy and juicy on the palate - lacking in the tannin department but what was there was silky and persistent. Pleasing. I gave myself a pat on the back.

  • All fresh, wild blue and black berry on the nose with a little savoury spice & earthy underpin. Its slightly sourly juicy on the palate, equally fresh and fruit forward with near zero tannins - the merest silky whisper. The acidity helped this play rather nicely with Chorizo

  • From Coravin. Black and blue berry, a little liquorice note, super fresh smelling, simple. In the mouth it's juicy, fresh, exceedingly lightweight - the tannins have almost completely dropped out - which makes this a very simple freshly berried fruity wine. I must confess I was hoping for a little more complexity from both a flavour and structure perspective.

  • DWC Barrel Sample (My place, Kent Street): Barrel Sample. Still on solids after initial press; tasting to ascertain racking requirements. Medium plus intensity a lot of blue and blackberry fruit, a little savoury/ meaty spicy underpin, a little almost boot polish note is not off purring, Nice nose. Juicy, fleshy, softly tannic burr persists long accompanying the dark berry fruit, alcohol prickle lends a little spice, generous and round without being flabby, very nice indeed, liquorice and very slightly stalky notes on the finish, a little short but pretty good. Time to rack gently and get this in bottle as quickly as possible.
