  According to the database this Moulis should about its zenit, but it isn't. This wine would certainly benefit from another 5 years of maturing, so would ne best around 2024-2025.
  Very well structured. Still quite some fruit left and fine tertiairy aromas. Just how Moulis dhould be, but still a bit too young and closed diwn at the moment.

  Wow, some harsh words about this wine have been posted!
  I disagree somewhat.
  
  Firstly: 2008 is, like 2011, a "food wine" vintage for BDX i.e. higher acid and high structure. It's for classicists.
  
  Secondly, Maucaillou is pretty reliable, and certainly one of the better producers in Moulis-en-Medoc. Not everybody can be Poujeaux or Chasse-Spleen, you know?
  
  Thirdly, I'm drinking this right now and it's pretty good. Pop-and-pour, no less, but it is better after an hour.
  
  It has a lactic quality, sure, but not really off-putting. At least to me. Maybe a touch charred/sulfuric and stiff, but this goes away within an hour. There's good bright cherry fruit here, and some swampy Gironde funk. Why is it not great wine? Well it IS a little dull, and somewhat anonymous, too. And there's not layers and layers of fruit or super-fine structure. Okay. But I think it's good for the price. Just have it with food and the whole thing falls in to place.
  
  Lastly, it's 9 years old and has at least 7 more of life left. I mean, it's quite primary and firm still. We're talking about a twenty-something priced claret from an "off" vintage that will live 15-20 years. That is pretty good. This wine is on the way up. Drink 2020 and it will be a killer lunch wine.
  
  One day people are going to realize 2008 was a pretty solid old-school vintage. Sort of like 1994.

On the palate creamy red fruits, lactic, some laurel, firm acidity, sticky and a bit green tannin and a firm amount of bitterness. Not really a friendly wine and not worthy of its appellation. Wait until 2020 to see if it becomes more pleasant, or if you need the space in your stock… drink it after you gave it lots of air and replace it for something better. This will never be a great wine. 84 – 85

  The bouquet has something creamy with medium ripe red and black berry fruits. On the palate in this stage not really friendly. The same fruits, but also firm acidity and a bit too biting tannin. Also green bell peppers. Around 2017 this will probably be a little more friendly, but it will never be really great. 85 for now.
