Maestro was right in'09 when he suggested that this wine was too young, but had potential. We opened another bottle recently and "wow". Twelve years into the vintage and it seems near perfect. No rough edges left, but still good fruit. Layers of complex red fruit and earthy goodness. Smooth as velvet with along satisfying finish. This is old style CDP done right.

Drinking well right now. The wine has enough layers to keep it interesting and not wearing out the palette. Tannins have softened somewhat and the wine is a great match for food.

Nicely balanced and thoroughly enjoyable. Excellent with a beef & butternut squash marsala stew. Just not quite enough standout features to make the 90 level in our estimation. Still lots of life left at 10 years into the vintage.

Nicely mellowed at 10 years age. The spicy Syrah is quite noticeable mid-palate and blends with the black currant aromas and bright cherry flavors of the other varieties in this classic Rhone blend. At a high 14.5% alcohol, it still matches OK with the grilled sirloin it was paired with although this may not have been the perfect pairing. The finish was not as long as some other CDPs, and while well balanced, it was not as complex as one might have expected at its retail price. But at the closeout price we paid, it was a great value.

Last bottle of this vintage in my cellar. Wonderful! See my note from last year for details, but at 13 years this one was still going strong.
