This is quite sweet, but it doesn't have the necessary acid to be anything special. Consensus at the table is that it's probably best to sip alone on a warm Sunday afternoon watching the sun sink into the Pacific... One wag wanted foie gras to go with it, but I've never liked that combo. Overall, I think it supports the adage that, counter-intuitively, sweet Loire whites are best in lean years, not warm and ripe years like '05. (FWIW, I've been disappointed by '02 and '07 Loire stickies as well...)

Birthday Bash with Most of the Family and Close Friends (Chez nous, Napa Yacht Club): Lovely late harvest chenin blanc, wonderful fruit presence, was perfect match for the Pink Ladies! 2005 was one of those incredible growing seasons where passerillage was prominent, a condition where the sun shrivels and dries the grapes, giving a clean, massive style that is incredibly intense. Honeyed fruits, apples and pears..luscious

Not surprisingly starting to show its age
Dark in glass, sweetness still balanced by acidity, but not a wine to drink alone: requires a dessert

Enjoyed a glass of this paired with a foie gras and momtmorency cherries. Very fine!
