Wow - many thanks to Michael for the very kind gift. This wine is wonderful - peach and apricot and honeysuckle and just perfectly sweet. It was the exactly right counterbalance to the meal and something that I wanted to sip for awhile.
Magnum night with the neighbors (Somewhere on E. 4th street): Screwcapped 750. A nice taste to end the evening. Golden in color. The nose has honey, orange peel and some sea air. On the palate, this is sweet but not overtly. Slightly viscous texture. Nice acidity. Honey and citrus. Long finish. A nice way to finish the evening especially with some buttered popcorn crem brulee.
Workshop Faculty Dinner (My House, Denver, CO): This was an amazing wine to end the dinner with and a stellar match to the brioche, which turned out to be lighter and less sweet than I feared. This wine had a rivetingly complex nose of sweet peach, pear, citrus, straw, burnt caramel, vanilla, and intense mineral. As expected, but not predicted from the richly sweet nose, this wine is lithe on the palate as the mineral and tingly acidity make their presence known from the moment the wine hits the palate. No cloying sweetness or protruding etoh at all. For once a dessert wine that enhanced a dessert (and vice versa; bravo Lucas).
Saturday Night Cali Cabs (Our House (2033 Brandywine)): Hoo boy. In a fantastic place right now. Thick and viscous. Sweetness perfectly balanced by the acidity. This is should age wonderfully but its just so hard to hold on to these. Peach, stone fruit, apricot and honey. Minerals, spice and brown sugar. There is mild development but really the evolution will be glacial. The finish is long long long.
