A rare misfire from one of our favorite winemakers. Cloyingly sweet with heavy spritz upon opening that never settled down. Lovely pink color; looks luscious in the glass. But the palate is sweet, sweet, sweet. Candied cherries and fruit cocktail. More soda pop than wine. Previous vintages have been excellent. Not sure what happened here.

Had this in the downtown SB tasting room yesterday. Really seems like a botched effort. Have very much enjoyed prior Rivieras, but the attack on this one is sickly sweet. Was told that it starts sweet, but finishes dry, and there's no RS. There may not be any RS, but there's not really a finish either. Ends abruptly and presents no balancing elements. Not something to reach for on a hot day, and honestly something that could blend into the pack in a blind tasting of boxed white zins. To be avoided, and the first Margerum wine out of dozens that I haven't enjoyed.

Very light pink color; appealing, light tart raspberry, golden raspberry nose; juicy, light bodied, sweet, raspberry puree palate; medium finish (12% alcohol)
