Pretty high-toned fruit with strawberry, maybe even a hint of gooseberry, and red plum. The fruit and body are almost Pinot-like (maybe not surprising given Anthill's pedigree), but there are plenty of syrah hallmarks to give it away- big notes of olive tapenade and gamey meat on the nose. Maybe some light floral quality as well as menthol as it opened up over an evening in the decanter (this is necessary- plenty of sediment at the bottom!) Theres a tiny kiss of noticeable oak, but it still leans very much toward the old world. I feel like the fruit has either faded a little bit or simply hides behind the tertiary aromas. Really beautiful Syrah that definitely works better with food due to the high brightness levels.

Dark purple color. Varietally correct nose of plums, olives, and minerals. The palate echoed the nose and provided moderate fruit intensity. There was good acidity and youthful, firm tannins. The finish was moderately long. Overall, this medium-bodied wine gave me exactly what I expected at an excellent price. On day 2, it became more complex with horsey notes, plums, pepper, and olives. I would add a couple more points on day 2.

Boysenberry juice, licorice, a just a touch of earth and menthol bitter herbs. At 13.5%, it's agile and light on its feet. My first Anthill, and I'm looking forward tomore.

Wonderful Syrah. A great balance between earthy, Rhone-style Syrah and a more fruit forward California Syrah. Good structure, acidity as well and a nice, long finish. Great wine. Ready now, with some air, and should get slightly better over the coming 2-4 years.
