  • As expected, it is not a subtle drink. Yet, it is unarguably well crafted and a great deal at the $20 price point!

  • The wine looks deep purple colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, black currant (cassis), prune, pear, mineral, flint, medium toast, bark, lead pencil, apple blossom, tea, tobacco, eucalyptus, Herbes de Provence, pistachio, butterscotch and tar. It tastes like cedar, fig, lemon, lychee, guava, mineral, stoniness, green olive, alcohol/hot, tar and horsey. The body is full. The wine has angular texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. It is tightly wound: dense and interesting. It should benefit from aging. I say do not touch it until 2020 at the earliest.

  • We're running through a really nice run of great petites, including those from Aaron, Turley, Miro, Varozza, and Carol Shelton. This stands up to them all, arguably with better balance than most. Ripe fruit, but not jammy. Smoky blueberries dominate the nose with some chocolate-covered cherries. Great mouthfeel; it hides its 15+% alcohol really well and is not at all overoaked. Yum.
