Outclassed by the 2016 Ardanza Riserva last night. But there would have been far more appeal on its own. I would say it was not a good matchup even though it was a perfectly logical choice and plan. Here we get far more candy like feel and less sexiness that the Ardanza shows. We are almost childlike in exaggerated aromas of ripe red fruit, a vain of balsamic, and voluptuous oak. All in all it works well, but comes across a bit ripe and empty at at the same time. I couldn't finish my glass, so it sat on the kitchen counter...I am going to hold off for a year at least.

Youthful, dense and concentrated Tempranillo made by legendary Vega Sicilia from 32 year old vines located at 700 m of altitude. After fermentation, wine is aged for 12 months in 75% FR and 25% US oak, 80% new. Deep garnet colour, ruby hue. Concentrated fresh aroma of blackberries, black cherries, chocolate, cassis, liquorice, tar, hints of wood smoke. Full body, slightly overly dense and concentrated, with black fruit and spice flavours, balsamic touches, medium acidity and rich, firm mouth coating tannins.

Not the most robust Pinita, but this is some crafty wine making and a sure shot for an enjoyable wine to put on the table for everyone. There is unmistakable quality, without the need to fuss and and ooh and ahh...So, very easy to understand and enjoy while chatting with friends.
If blind, it points me to a hot vintage St. Emilion or a Cotes de Bourg in their youth. I would say that this is 2003 Right Bank Bordeaux profile after 7 years of aging, plus some very crafty woodwork. Roasted plums and black figs swimming in a red coffee laden potion with hints of vanilla. A bit of thin-ness of the fruit tells me not to hold this too long. I say drink now and over 5 years...Drink

My wife loves it. Luckily she has a taste for quality. Youthful, smooth and lightly balanced. The wine is great too.
