  • The final wine in a "past their prime" party. This wine still drinks well, with some life left in it. A lot of aroma coming out of the glass, fruits and flowers. Tannins were subdued and the fruit was mild, trending toward dried fruit on the palate.

  • Delicious paired with beef brisket (light barbecue sauce) and cheesy polenta. Held its own against 2007 Shafer Hillside. Deep dark fruits and long finish. Decanted for several hours, but drank quickly without notes.

  • One of the best red wines I've tasted all year. So beautifully balanced, warm soft ripe red fruits(cherry macerated strawberries) , plenty of earth and some delicious funk. Not a ton of spice but evokes Christmas warmth. Beautiful Rhone varieties work so well together. Not a jagged edge anywhere. Seamless. More finesse than power. Medium bodied but lasting finish.

  • 40% MOURVEDRE, 20% GRENACHE, 20% 100 year old CARIGNANE, 10% SYRAH, 10% PETITE SIRAH and 100% Napa Valley
    As always, decanted 1+ hours..
Aromas are rich and brooding foreshadowing density and complexity. Bold scents of fresh road tar, aged meats, shoe leather, anise, good and plenty's, pipe tobacco, shisha smoke, pepper macerated blackberries, tamarind paste, smashed blueberries, crushed violets and dark cherry notes with wild herbs and spice.
The bold palate is dense and saturated. Candied basil and anise flavors meld with shisha smoke, smashed blackberry, dark cherry, tamarind, boysenberry, tar, earth, crushed flowers, pepper, grill smoke, aged meats, wild herbs and light baking spice. Moderate-plus density across the mid-palate with good acid structure. The finish is long emphasizing floral laced dark fruit and anise with good grip.

  • Wine really pops out of the glass. Plums, cherries, and blackberries.
