  • plum, licorice, earth, vanilla, and cocoa notes. med. to full bodied, dark spicy fruit and resolved dusty tannins, decent finish.

  • Very thin, a bit acidic, and a non existant finish make this wine pretty awful. We like the '01 reserve much better for less money.

  • I bought this online for $14 in july of 2007. I was surprised to see an older wine for such a low price so I bought a bottle. The nose is the best component of this wine which is ok if all you will be doing is smelling it. Aromas of kirsch liqueur are present along with a bit of earth. Personally I look a little further expecting a wine with a great nose to deliver at least good taste. The body on the Monasterio 1999 gran reserva is thin, somewhat vegetal, but there's a nice old wood foudre finish. I don't really recommend this wine to anyone who has a good palate, just too many flaws in this. 30%tempranillo, 30% garnacha, 20% cab, and 20% carignane. I know 80 seems like a low score but if you look at the rating scale 80 describes this wine as good, which is just what it is and nothing more.

  • A cinnamon-dominated nose is the primary virtue of this wine. The palate, color, and body all meet the traditional standards of Spanish blends - a longer finish and a more distinctive taste would cause me to rate this higher.

  • thick juicy fruit, but first glass a little dusty...better after decanting for an hour.Surpisingly the Reserva was better than the Gran Reserva...maybe it was just the OPR aspect
