Honsetly I am becoming increasingly disenchanted with those standard WA syrahs. Solid wine for sure, but nothing special about it. Fruity, smooth, pretty big, a tad hot, finishes nice with a mineral zing. Yes, it was well done and polite and all, but there is just no excitement.

Washington Wine Tasting w/ Steven Tanzer (Palace Kitchen, Seattle, WA): This was the surprise of the night for me. The nose had wonderful blue/black fruit aromas, and notes of smoky oak. The palate had blackberry, cherry, roasted meat, and smoke flavors. Wow this was tasty. Full bodied with a nice mouthfeel and a medium-long finish. This was the first time that I have had an Abeja Syrah - I enjoyed it a lot more than I have their Cabs.

Nose: red fruit, licorice, Taste: cherry, a little hollow in the midpalate though bright acidity, licorice with a hint of mint on the finish

Very enjoyable. Lots of depth; combo of fruity/smoky without either being overwhelming. Excellent food wine but great just to savor on its own.
