Decanted for one hour. Barely translucent ruby garnet. Nose of brooding beef blood, green leaf, wafting hothouse flowers, and fecund soil. Layers of blackberry, fresh meaty tones, crystalline green pepper, grounding fine soil, and currant on the palate. Enlivening acidity and smoothed, massaging tannin. Long finish of potent red currant, earth, and green. So beautiful and right in its wheelhouse.

Decanted for about 60 minutes and followed for 3 more hours. Dark opaque garnet color. Fragrant nose of currant, red plum, cassis, green leaf, meaty smells, and high-altitude floral scents. Layers of ripe plum, blackberry, red earth, beef blood, satisfying green pepper, and subtle hints of tobacco on the energetic palate. Vibrant acidity and smoothed tannin. Longer finish of echoing red fruit, green highlights, and craggy soil. So lively and fresh, yet evolved and multifaceted. Wonderful wine still on an upward trajectory.

This needed quite some air and had some stray and green bell pepper notes that needed to blow off. After 2 hours, some of the green notes remained, but tart berries, underwood, and rustic notes come through. Lots of acidity with more tart berries and fruit, iron, and some dried flowers on the palate. Medium finish. I really wanted to like this wine and have loved the 89 Raffael Perrieres on multiple occasions, but this wine just has something going on that’s not quite right. Not bad either, but just not great (maybe a bad bottle) and I don’t think it’s flawed.

Decanted 3 hours for a birthday dinner. Smoothly green and currant based, with silky elegance.
