Given the structured nature of the grape, the great thing about the wine is how balanced and almost elegant it comes off. That is, it's still big but not bruising -- there's big fruit to set off the structure and good acidity to cut through any hint of flabbiness that might be present. • The Matthew's Station Vineyard is named for the Kunde's son. Tannat was planted in 1994 and 1995 in two blocks totaling 0.96 acres. Tasted double blind, this wine displayed aromas of mint, pine, evergreen and blue fruit. The palate reveals sweet minty fruit, though it has a medicinal undertone on the finish. Firm tannins.
