The color is still quite nice for a 17 year old Merlot. The nose lacks a little in both intensity and diversity. Soft texture, the alcohol a little too present and perhaps lacking a little in acidity. Has lost some of its freshness

I was surprised to see no prior reviews on this wine, so here goes. Cork in very good condition, came out easily with standard screwdriver. Ruby garnet color, no bricking visible. On the nose notes of cedar and reminded me of some old Bordeaux wines. First tastes were a bit disappointing with restrained fruit and a very slight hint of a green pepper on the finish. But with decanting and breathing the wine opened up very nicely after about three hours and peaked about four hours after opening. Lots of black fruits, tannins softened substantially with time and a very nice 5-10 second finish on the front palate emerged. I had to down rate it a bit because it took so long before giving pleasure but maybe that was because it was too young. I only bought one, which was a whim purchase just because it was in our anniversary year, so will have to wait for another cellar tracker reviewer to see if this wine evolved over time.

The age has really helped this wine. Quite big for a Merlot, almost Cabernet like. Rich and heavy, while still smooth and rounded, this one might have been a little tight in it's youth. There is still enough of that Granny Smith acid to affect the fruit. There are layers here, for example; noticeable French oak, the afore mentioned big acid, and, more tannins than expected. Even though these grapes have been off the vine for 6 years, there is lots of youth showing here. The black raspberry fruit is still fighting the acid for center stage. The oak softens and round out the edges. Probably could use a couple more years in the bottle to show it's true potential.
