Harmonious and well balanced Chateauneuf made from 70 year old vines with a blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre, aged for 2 years in used oak. Medium red colour, ruby hue. Medium intensity aroma of earth, prunes, dried raspberries, cherries, tobacco, incense, hint of violets. Full body, striking balance from the first sip, intense, but not overpowering, great depth of spiced and smoky black fruit flavours, medium density, finishes long with silky powdery tannins.

Ripe cherries and blueberries, some pine and spice, and decent remaining structure. Still in the prime zone and can go a bit longer. Very good for the price.

Weekly tasting group #209; Old world 2006 (@ BS): In the bouquet beautiful red berries, garrigue, some rustic impressions, good oak and some signs of development. On the palate a juicy start with ripe red fruits like raspberries and blackberries, leather, licorice, beautifully fresh acidity and soft tannin with a pleasant and still powerful bite. Overall a beautiful and elegant wine which is in its maturity stage now and will stay there for a few more years.

Monthly Tuesday group #002: Châteauneuf du Pape (By MN): Beautiful bouquet with ripe dark forest fruits, licorice, herbs and spices. On the palate licorice, a lot of herbs and spices and chocolate. Beautiful acidity and tannin. The wine is not extremely complex, but certainly a great pleasure and less evolved than the bottle I tasted in July.
