We really have liked the wines of Chateau de Saint-Cosme, which is why we are posting this note. A medium ruby in the glass, the nose features subtle dark cherry, blackberry, tobacco and pink pepper. Average intensity and concentration, this simply did not stand up well to the Braised Chicken Thighs with Olives and Basil which we have often. This recipe from foodnetwork.com calls for an Aglianico wine, because it is deceptively deep and herbal. 2008 was not a very good vintage, and this particular wine does not compare well to 2005-2007 editions. Still, nicely made, clean, and quite fruity on the main. On the other hand, congrats to Saint-Cosme for their first recent 100-point wine from the Wine Advocate!

has the same pepper notes as previous bottles but there is no discernible fruit and gets bitter on finish. I tasted another wine (American Syrah) to see if there was something off in my palate but no. I waited 2 hours and no evolution.

Not faded and needs to be drunk up. Still showing fruit earthy notes. Shows the leaness of the vintage which has helped preserved it. Impressive.
