Marchesi di Gresy Barbaresco Martinenga: 1978 to 2007 (Acquerello, San Francisco): Same color as the Gaiun, little maturity. Less forward aromatically but absolutely gorgeous in the mouth. Subtle, lighter entry but tarry with perfectly ripe tannin, that chocolate again, and to this point, the most harmonious, lushest feel without any undue weight. Incredible inner mouth coverage and perfume, everything in place, solid acidity and a long, lingering finish. My handwritten notes said ***-this killed everything else in the flight and was one of the most exciting wines of the evening. I'd LOVE to taste this in 10-15 years when it is fully expressed and ethereal.

RWC Marchesi di Grésy's Martinenga Barbaresco Dinner (Acquerello Restaurant, San Francisco, California): Bricking medium red color; lovely, appealing, elegant, dried cherry, baked cherry, baked raspberry, light white chocolate nose; youthful but delicious, floral, dried cherry, tart raspberry, hibiscus, ripe blood orange palate; needs 3 years and should go for 20+ years; long finish 95+ points
