Peter's 40th Birthday celebration at Nicolas. Deep, dark red, brown at the rim. Lovely intense aged nose, with lots of old roses, violets and touch of spice. So Leroy-worthy! The nose was marvelous, but the palate struggled to match it. Nice old saddle leather, plums, prunes and black tea, with sour and tart cherries and earth. Wine faded rather quickly.

Mature, polishy character with varnish and light red cherry fruit. Well resolved palate, with sous bois and mature notes. Probably a bit old, and showing rather short as a result, but still very enjoyable.
Some non-offensively volatile furniture polish notes subside to cherry fruits and well-rounded mushroom notes. Perhaps a bit old, or maybe just never totally in-sync, as it turns flabby and slightly funky on the finish. Pretty, feminine Amoureuses pedigree shows through.

Dead as a dead can be. Nose was tolerable. Palate was not.
