Nose: Hardly any fruit, just barnyard. Mouth: Consistent with the mouth. There is a strange sweetness to it, too. Well, at least the mouthfeel is good. 14.5% alc. Flawed bottle?

“Mixed Bag of Rhône Wines”-Tasting, Flight 3, Wine 1 (non-blind), in January 2014. The wine was dark ruby in colour and offered an expressive nose of red and dark fruit, blackberry, coffee, spices, some black pepper, liquorice, leather, mushroom and underbrush. On the flavourful palate the wine showed cherry, blackberry, some coffee, spices, black pepper, liquorice and roasted notes, paired with medium-plus well-integrated acidity, medium-plus well-integrated tannin, moderate heat from the alcohol and very good length. Re-tasted the next day the wine had opened-up further and become fruitier. A medium- to full-bodied, balanced and elegant Syrah/Viognier blend. The wine already was enjoyable, but seemed young and showed good potential for further development in bottle over the next five to six years. We liked it; will buy again.

Aromas of forest floor, damp earth, spices, pepper and lavender wrapped in dark plums. Well-structured with nice feel, but lacking the balance needed to take this to the next level. That being said, this is an overall solid wine which will allow room for improvement with some short-term cellaring.

Very ripe nose of dark fruit and liquorice. Some alcohol heat. Not fully balanced. Drink up.
