Popped and poured. Pretty decent wine. Very dark garnet, with legs. Excellent nose on this, well-balanced fruit with a nice spice profile. Crisp wine on the palate, but with plenty of flesh. Some oak apparent, but only to accent the predominantly fruity flavors. Pretty good for an "off" vintage. 5-12-16-8: 91/100.

A very good $30 Bordeaux. Black garnet color suggests class. A raft of minerals and iodine in the nose is pretty. Medium body, nicely delineated fruit flavors, could easily pass for a wine of higher station. Only flaw is a bit of hollowness in the mid-palate and short finish. One of the better value plays in this vintage (and others as well, for that matter). If you like a nice, mellow, easy-drinking Bordeaux that is a real people-pleaser, try this. 5-12-14-8: 89/100.

Popped and poured. Out of the gate, this is a mineral-driven Bordeaux, and quite decent. Surprisingly dense dark red. And shows off some nice light red legs. Fairly good grip, with gritty tannins on the finish. Excellent value. 5-12-16-8: 91/100.

Dark cherries, licorice and cocoa will have you convinced this wine is a Pomerol. On the palate, this medium-bodied charmer is silky, sweet and round. It was produced from a blend of 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc, setting a record for the highest amount of Merlot ever placed in the blend. The elevated proportion of Merlot on the limestone and the added sensation of minerality mixed with lush fruits makes this an instant enchantress. I marvel at this production because half of the vineyard was destroyed by frost, generating only 9% of the 2016 release.

Very pleasant wine and, as always, a great value.
