  Cellar Raid at ES and Lunch at Imperial Treasure (Extra Space / Imperial Treasure Nan Nei, Suntec City): Decent, enjoyable wine, but rather disappointing for a higher-end 1er Cru. Started out rather poorly - got me thinking an Austrian Spatburgunder from a decent but not top-line maker, but it improved with time to show more Burgundian notes - certainly nothing like what you would expect from an Epenots though. On first pour, the nose was all earth and wet muddy funk along with sticky sweet red fruit - crushed cherry and raspberry pulp along with a touch of cola. The sweet core of fruit never quite disappeared, but it thankfully got less sticky and cloying with time, taking on a perfumed potpourri and flower top-notes along with rather welcomed savoury, uamami pork bones and white pepper notes, along with a dusting of dried woody herbs. All a bit in-you-face though, especially with a touch of glycerol weaving in and out of the bouquet. All in all though, very nice. The palate, I felt, was more restrained. Certainly more Burgundian, but just not quite as attractive. Juicy, almost sour acid on on the attack, but that filled up quickly with cool fruits, just on the cusp of ripeness - I got blueberries, raspberries and haw flakes. The finish held bittersweet minerals, wet stone, some earth, some herb and a tangy orange peel linger. A bit short here, closing quickly with a final whiff of smoked oak, and fine, but grippy tannins coating the mouth. Pleasant. But somehow, just a little clumsier on the structure and balance than Potel's usual bottlings at this level. THe vintage showing perhaps?

  Smoky mineral laced pungent flowers. Sweeter nose that recedes to unveil pig stomach soup with cracked white peppercorns. Earth and herbs. Whiff of smoke. Crushed red partially ripe red fruits. Quite attradtive, juicy fruits, bitter minerality at the end with somewhat musky orange peels at the finish.
