(ST SIFFREIN Chateauneuf du Pape) 2009 Dear Friends, Value still exists, even in one of the wine world’s hottest regions (no pun intended). After the success of their 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape, a wine that made Claude and Cyril Chastan famous overnight, a decision had to be made – either move the winery up to the pricing level of their peers (closer to $35-45 for the regular cuvee) or cull several blends/luxury parcels in 2009 and up the ante in that fashion. They did neither. Preferring to stick with their customers and a basic philosophy that Chateauneuf du Pape should be a single-wine expression, the Chastans continued to support their terroir and the drinker (you) with bargain priced wine that could easily trade for a much higher price. Apart from their small experimental “hobby” lot of Terre d’Abel (a wine Cyril makes more for study than anything else and only in a few vintages per decade), St. Siffrein’s effort is focused on this – a bottle that represents the best of the vintage and of their vineyard land, blended with little intervention and little fuss. In Cyril’s mind, their Chateauneuf du Pape displays the name of the winery on the label and for that very reason it must be their best effort. There are too many producers dumbing down their regular CdP bottling into expensive Cotes du Rhone and taking what would have gone into that wine (in the 1970s-1990s) for several more costly/oaked cuvees. Not at Saint-Siffrein (even though they were arguably at the epicenter of the most successful band of vineyards in the 2009 vintage): FIRST COME FIRST SERVED at this price up to 36/person until we run out This parcel is directly from the winery cellar with perfect provenance (it is not via the grey market) 2009 Domaine de Saint-Siffrein Chateauneuf du Pape - (there isn’t as much of this available as in 2007, so it’s going to be tough to find a price comparison, but this is low) To order: niki@garagistewine.com This parcel is set to depart the cave – it will arrive in April (please check OARS for local pick up after April 15th). It will ship during the Spring shipping season. Out of state orders will be held for free under ideal storage conditions (56 degrees/70%humidity) until shipping is possible. Locals may pick up at their leisure. For current local pick up and arrival/ship information, please see your OARS link below (at the bottom of this offer) - don’t know how to access your OARS?
