Deep cherry red in the glass. Cherry vanilla nose, echoed on the smooth, medium tannic, almost fruit punchy palate. The highly extracted California style that is not my personal favorite, but I can appreciate the effort. Probably better with a medium cut of red meat than with the usual salmon or duck suspects.
First night I felt this was smoke tainted, and I really didn't enjoy it. Second night it had "recovered" considerably and was much better. Solid core of cherry fruit with ample acidity/super soft tannins. If you're holding more of these, I recommend a solid decant.
