World's Greatest, Hong Kong - Night III (8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana, Macau): Spectacular nose, a big bouquet of white lilies with pleasant smoky and reductive butteriness. This is a little more cerebral than the ‘96 Leflaive Chevy in the next glass, which is absolutely booming, if less floral. A unique cola spice in here, probably related to oak vanilla. Dried coconut. Palate is fresh and huge and round with dense yellow fruit and good acid. Whereas the Leflaive is straightforwardly delicious, the d’Auvenay has such elegance and nuance to the flavours. 96-97.

World's Greatest - Night III (Per Se): The most developed nose of the flight but still gives up a big bouquet of white flowers and ripe yellow fruit. More reductive than '00 but less than '05. Palate is dense and rich but is missing any acid to carry the flavors through to a big finish. Still pretty fantastic.

The first bottle that I opened was flawed, so watch out. These notes are from a second bottle. Lots of spice and tired tropical notes on the nose. Nice acidity and minerals on the palate. The acidity almost overwhelms the fruit at this stage. This wine is perfectly fine to drink today, but is past it peak. Some bottles are flawed.

Coffee, caramel aromatics. Touch light on palate. Acidity still hanging in, perhaps too much. (120/725)

Modest bouquet of spices on the nose. Delicate and thinning palate at first put on weight with air time. This bottle seemed past its prime. 93-
