  • Burnt orange and caramel color with dead slow legs. On the nose burnt orange, burnt apricot and roasted caramel. The palate had a lot of pine apple and grapefruit rind, sugared orange peel and caramel candied guava fruit. The finish contained almost no sweetness and very little acidity with lots of fruit rind and pine apple. Being an import bottling specifically for Valckenberg Imports this was the 4th of 4 bottles I had purchased from them back in 2001 and 2002 as a retailer. Two of my four bottles were corked one being opened in 2012 and 2017 and the one that was good I opened in 2007 and cannot find the notes. I have become very wary of large region Eiswein bottlings from importers and have preferred to stay within smaller regional and vineyard specific sites when it comes to Eiswein. Drink now!

  • Gold tinged and viscous. Clean and pure nose of lemon candy with no musty undertones or funky overtones. Perfect balance with excellent tension between sweet and tart which typical of the vintage. Liquorous with excellent weight and mouth feel. Citrus flavors of lemon gaining complexity with orange peel. Smooth as silk on the palate but and etching sensation in the throat. Fabulous clean eiswein that is aging beautifully.
