This magnum was served with a 75 Château Beau-Séjour Bécot and a 01 Chateau Talbot. It proved to be the star of night with very nice tones of sweet licorice, eucalyptes, black currant jam and some herbes. It developed nicely in the glass and I think it is now at its peak - very drinkable and enjoyable.

Dinner with R&Y, H&S, G&L (Home): Dense cabernet-dominated nose. Very Graves, blackcurrant leaf and tobacco. Quite stern compared to the first two. Opens up and becomes more generous after 4 to 5 hours, but still classicaly claret-styled. least favourite of the night, but suffered in the shadow of the other bottles. Good acidity and reasonable length I think this would be a nice drink in its own right. Towards the end of the evening it seemed to develop an ever so slightly woody finish. ***

Dense purple colour with a sweet perfume of black cherries, cassis and a hint of liquorice. This is a full bodied and heavily concentrated wine with bags of tannins, but good density and weight.Lovely wine but not for the faint hearted and will improve I believe with another few years bottle age.

An International Challenge: Languedoc vs. South Africa (World Service Restaurant, Nottingham): 65% cabernet sauvignon; 20% merlot; 10% cabernet franc; 5% malbec
A weedy twiggy nose. I think this is corked. Others disagree. Tastes the same as it smells. Corked.
