Nose of bonox, white pepper and marmalade. Surprisingly substantial body of dried cherries, wood bark and licorice although there does seem to be some dead fruit in there. Short finish of blueberries, bitter chocolate and charcoal. This may benefit from some ageing.

A good, inexpensive, Sunday family dinner wine. Doesn't taste cheap, fake, or fabricated like many inexpensive wines do. Nothing super exciting or complex. Keep the expectations realistic and you'll be pleased. 84-85 pts.

WSET III, part 2; 12/3/2011-12/4/2011 (Portland, ME): Clear; medium-plus ruby color with thick, pigmented legs. Medium-plus body, medium-minus tannin. On the palate, black cherry, black currant, herbs, and smoke. Some potential for aging. Good, but uggh - boring!

saw this on a F&W mag top 100 value wines and hoped for something good. then remembered I paid $8 for it and stopped hoping for anything other than a bottle to swig a glass or 2 from and cook with the rest.

Lots of tobacco, liquorice, oak on the nose with a decent palate of forest fruits.
