  shared this with pat, ellen and mahesh at selkirk manor. celebrating pat's birthday as well as ellen and mahesh moving from brooklyn back to staten island. this experience illustrates the danger of holding on to special bottles for special occasions. in this instance, i continue to believe that the wine would have been more enjoyable a few years ago. this time around, i became aware of the almond and smoke described in the christie's tasting note of 2005. the luscious fruit that was so enjoyable on release is hard to discern at this time. older vintages of this wine are still being consumed in asia so i assume that this style is appealing to some. for me, at this price point, i don't want to have to struggle to find endearing qualities. i will say that the taste experience was unique.

  i always thought that batard was a long lived wine and that grape selection going to the hospices would be among the best. don't know what went wrong here. we drank this wine when it was released and it was amazing. it was one of the few really WOW wines that i have ever had. at this time, the color is golden. way too much honey and honeysuckle masking the beautiful fruit that was evident when the wine was young. will reluctantly have to drink the remaining bottle sometime soon unless i learn that this is what the wine is supposed to be about in its old age.

  a stunning batard-montrachet. never experienced anything like this before. great depth and complexity but with breeding and style such that nothing is overdone.
