  • Marché aux Vins d'Ampuis 2017; 1/20/2017-1/22/2017 (Ampuis): M. Faurie avait apparemment oublié une pièce de St Jo VV 2009. Embouteillé en 2016.

    Couleur : robe grenat sombre.
    Note: 16,25+/20 (91+/100)

  • Rough and brutish. Very closed and unyielding, tannic. Bury for 15 years.

  • This is a wine for the long haul and is very unforgiving at the moment. Dark purple with a bright ruby rim and a rustic nose of oil-cured olives, blackberries, earth and sage, with both a floral and meaty edge. Quite lean with tart acids and a mean tannic backbone but seems to hold a lot of promise based on the complexity it shows on the nose and the quality of the component parts. By day 2, this was showing more black pepper and tart pomegranate notes and had gained a bit more weight in the midpalate. Still it is clear this is a wine made for traditionalists and will require some patience to show its potential. 89+ pts today, but with a lot of upside.
