Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix at Ariana II (Ariana 2, Kilburn, London): I have a few different bottlings from this producer in the cellar and this is typical of the house style. The nose has some elements that remind me of the northern Rhône; some iron filings, a little olive brine and a lovely earthiness. Palate is youthful, and holds a little more back than the Louis Latour Aloxe 1er Chaillots (of the same vintage) it is served with. I un and ah about which I prefer - I think the Latour but both charming.

Ladoix and Aloxe (Ariana II): More evolved in colour than the L Latour alongside, but again not in a way that screams 24 years old, not even remotely. There is a really appealing candy-floss element to the nose, a pure sweetness that I found highly compelling. It doesn't translate onto the palate in quite the same way, which as with the other bottle is more savoury in nature, with a bit of farmyard and a bit of smoke. I really enjoyed this and it was my WOTN by a whisker.

much more pronounced maturity with this bottle over bottles dranks 12 months ago. Sitting in a nice place where the maturity of the fruit is sitting on the ridge before it starts its inevitable decline in the next few years.

The last 2 bottles of this have had a much more farmyard-like aroma to them and the fruit is becoming much more animalistic. Good stinky nose and with a little air this is gaining complexity the longer it sits in bottle. No rush to drink - still has a good few years left in it and I feel it is starting to really develop more secondary characteristics that need another year or two to develop.

Christmas 2010; 12/26/2010-1/5/2011 (Lille, France): Maturing nicely - gamey fruit with a touch of farmyard. Good structure - no rush to drink.
