Birthday Party-6 MAGNUMS (Walnut Creek, Ca.): From a $57 auction magnum stored in my cellar for over 10 years, nose of slate, chalk, brioche, and sea salt, same on the palate, big body, mouth filling fruit, complex, rich, lovely, crisp, refreshing, lovely mousse of tiny bubbles, hint of honey on finish and aftertaste, at least 9 people complimented me on this magnum, photo uploaded.

NR. This was a bottle recently found tucked away in a liquor store that's very much non-fine wine oriented, and from the bottle number/code it was bottled in 1999. While currently it was on its side in a darkish corner at sub 70F conditions, I couldn't guess at storage conditions for the last two decades. No bubbles left. Dark gold/amber in color. Very oxidized in nature. Honey, butterscotch, dried apricot notes. It wasn't spoiled at all, just over the hill, much like an over-aged quality Chardonnay. It was enjoyable in an interesting way, though not something everyone enjoyed. Pick your audience with this one. Glad I have a second bottle of it. and know where to get a few more.

Stone fruits, a little sweeter than I like, barely more muted than I remember veuve being. Good value.

From a half. Excellent energy and compelling weight, at once piercing and expansive. So good!
