  • Lovely light ruby color with slight bricking at the edges, light to medium bodied wine, smelling of violets upon opening. I'd been meaning to drink this burg for some time, and had it standing on my wine cellar table for months. FInally, in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, I had the time and occasion to drink this lovely, lively 99 mostly alone at home watching the tube. Still very vibrant and alive with very good acidity, mixed with gobs of red, sweet ripe cherries. As almost always the case with volnay, this was by no means a heavyweight (though bigger in the 99 vintage than usual). However, the wine really stood the test of time, was quite well balanced and elegant, with a lovely long finish. I wish I had some more...So I just bought a few 09s to drink in another 10 years...
