The Whitehawk Vineyard is 98% Syrah and has 2% Viognier in the blend and spent 18 months in French oak, 50% new. Inky, deep and opaque red showing signs of moderate sediment. Medium-plus staining in the legs. After air time super ripe and jammy scents of strawberry, raspberry and blueberry mingle with scents of fresh rose petals, violets, vanilla, Luxardo, clove, pepper, herbs, hoisin and turkish coffee. Rich upon entry, showing high density across the mid-palate. Flavors are rich, dense and concentrated showing a date quality; candied cherry, blackberry, blueberry and light prune and date notes. Vanilla, violet pastilles, baking spices including clove and cardamom with star anise, melted black licorice, hoisin, pepper and coffee flavors with a streak of grilled meat. The finish lingers with grippy tannins and bacon wrapped date flavors. Overall could still use time, otherwise air out! 92/93

WCC US Syrah Blind (Provence Restaurant, Albany, NY): Big, spicy red fruit nose. Rich, spicy, and complex. Long and tasty.

Waited three years to try since my last bottle. Two hour decant. Still a big wine. I would wait a few more years (2019-2020).

Rich, seamless and absolutely delicious. I could have used a little more complexity, but my wife would give this a 95.
