  • Noticed some funk when opening, but gone quickly and left with rich blackberry and plums. Did not decant, but used a Vinturi. Nice fruity flavor to start with a medium finish that ended with a little sour note. Overall very drinkable, but probably needs more time.

  • Red, not too deep, a bit cloudy. A good amount of funk on opening that dissipated with time, revealing the primarily fruit driven plummy and blackberry nose mixed with celery stalk, leather, tobacco and some broccoli. Broad on the palate, dry and medium weight with blackberry fruit quickly giving way to earthy notes - savory tobacco and leather and other green things, followed by bright acidity driving the medium length finish. Tannins are almost non-existent, which was a bit disappointing. Well balanced, except for that! Also, 12.5% abv, which is awesome!

A great, food friendly & enjoyable introduction for me to Chinon and Loire reds, but I was expecting more structure.

Day 2: Speaks to how this wine could use a few more years, funk is gone, fruit and spice and celery stalk dominate the nose now, with fruit, spice and greenness on the palate and great acidity to match now. Tannins are even more subdued but the acidity stands out more, the wine seems more focused now. +2 points for day 2.

  • Decanted for 2 hours and then drank over 2 hours. J thought it tasted like a French Pinot. It had earthiness and fruit in balance. A nice bottle of wine.

  • Opened at 2:00 PM, decanted at 2:45 PM, re-bottled at 6:40 PM, served at 7:00 PM. Clear medium garnet-violet. A terroir-driven bouquet with stony, mineral-scented leafy blackberries and underbrush. Very smooth and mellow on the palate, easy to drink, but rich and generous. I wanted to taste this unoaked wine in its youth, and based on this fine showing, I hope to revisit in a year or five.
