Private Dinner (New York, NY): Intensely acidic and salty with chalky notes on the nose. There's a rush of lemon in the mouth, but it's almost as if the sweetness of the lemon has been removed, leaving only the acid. A hint of toasted/candied fruit and a mineral inflection. My initial reaction was that this was difficult to drink and not enjoyable. It softened a bit with some time in the glass and I found myself warming to it, although not enough that I'd buy a bottle myself. Rated 0 on a scale of -1 to 3.

(Roger Coulon Champagne Coteaux Champenois Blanc) Light yellow color; saline, chalk, tart apple nose; tasty, juicy, tart apple, tart baked apple, saline, mineral palate; medium-plus finish (100% Pinot Meunier; 12.5% alcohol; I could drink this every day)

Really a delicious wine. The age has softened the acidiy. Still very chalky, golden apple, and the acid is still sharp but balanced.
