  • 12.5%, which is higher than current rieslings bottled by Breuer. Yellow appearance. The first impression on the nose is that this is less ripe than the very good years. Although it is regionally identifiable thanks to scents of ripening pineapple, it is greener and there's a little high-toned volatile acidity. It does manage to cast-off the green and the VA after a while. Medium body, in line with my expectations, with white and yellowish fruit. The acidity of the vintage shows at the middle palate, earlier than is usually the case, and continues to the finish. While not lean, the acid-tattoo of the vintage does show and the length is shorter than I expect this label to be. When the nose no longer notices the green and VA, the palate does get longer and some sweetness shows. I didn't think it would, but this underwent a transformation into a very good plus wine. It should comfortably drink equally well at age twenty and probably for another couple of years after that. I'll decant my one remaining bottle.

  • Bright yellow colour. Elegant and harmonious nose with citrus aromas, including lemon peel, yellow apple, mineral, and hints of mint, honey and petrol. Very fresh and light-to-medium bodied palate, citrus-dominated, some green apples, mineral, hint of "grapefruity" bitterness, high acidity and comes across as quite dry.
Has developed beautifully for a wine at this level, and I suppose Breuer's style in combination with the 2004 acidity (which made many 2004 German Rieslings seem quite lean and tart on release) is the explanation. Mature but definitely no rush to drink up.
