Vanilla, cocoa, baking spices, tasted oak on the nose; on the palate fading into leather, rich texture. Round ripe tannins, big finish. Still youthful.

Deep brooding wine, still drinking really young. Smoky, with supple fruits, after 20 mins in the glass started to move more towards leather, cocoa. Outstanding.

Brought to a tasting. Served side by side with a 2009 Del Dotto Cab Franc, which given its youth and vanilla/oak aromas made the Peju smell old-world in comparison. Complex nose of red fruit, some green notes or tobacco, maybe some bell pepper. Red fruit on the palate, some green pepper, earthiness. Still somewhat youthful, and a touch sweet. Hides the alcohol (15.5%) pretty well.

NY/NJ Offline at Fonda Del Sol 6.15.11 (Fonda Del Sol, NYC): Medium intensity ruby color in the glass. Red fruit, vanilla and toasted oak on the nose. Similar notes on the palate. Slightly herbaceous with hints of pyrazine and spice. Medium tannin and acid. Medium finish.
