Vintage 2008 was a good one in the Ahr valley and the best Spätburgunders have kept well. Still, it's hard to see where 14,5 % abv came from in a cool vintage like this. Aromatically well developed with some vanilla sweetness on the palate, yet fairly well balanced thanks to the rich strawberry/cherry fruit and fresh cranberry-like acidity. Stylewise somewhat outdated with its coffee-toasted oak, the wine still is in pretty good shape.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #080; Germany: Ahr (by MM): Bouquet with a lot of smoke and minerals. On the palate smoke, strawberry, coffee, minerals and a lot of good acidity. Great length.
