I was very eager to try this given bottle age and the fact Pira is a very underrated producer, in my opinion. Was excellent. Still displaying a medium-dark ruby red color, fairly opaque with not a lot of bricking, a bit surprising. We drank decanted (based on recommendation of previous reviewers) so got some good initial whiffs of candied cherry, dark chocolate and cassis that stayed with us the whole evening. On the palate you definitely get the sense this got a lot of barrique treatment with the tannins highly sanded down at this point (a bit unusual - their entry level wines are highly tannic). The integration on the palate was fantastic - tobacco, baking spices, all secondary elements at this point. Elongated, harmonious finish. Absolutely 100% peak drinking now, no doubt, lack of tannins means it will elegantly decline from here. Best value for producers who source from Vigna Rionda too.

This one needs a lot of air. Upon opening, there is alcohol in front along with a sharp, bitter acidity, but stand back, Eve, there is more to come; the alcohol whifs off, it gains power, notes of chocolate and tobacco, a layered wine just beginning to show, what it is. #PB&HÅ#Møntergade

no notes and bad memory but this was certainly still in its youthful era... it wasn't shut but felt like it could go at least another 10-20 years (if you like them fully aged)

needed time in decanter... if I'm disciplined I'll wait another ten years for the next bottle... this is nice and has the body to last at least that long (and probably another 10-15 after that)
