  • saw note from SBurtt and thought it perfectly captured our experience with this wine, had alongside a dozen courses of Italian food made by an Italian national recently moved the the US... here is the note: I tasted this from a bottles that had been opened 5 days before, but perfectly preserved. This was surprising, very concentrated and powerful notes of licorice, a touch of oak, but very well integrated, gentle tannins, this wine is very nicely balanced and extremely yummy, I am not a fan of modern style barolo, but I must admit this was a very nice bottle, at plateau, but will go on at least for a decade."

Drunk side to side with Marenca that was very similar but with a touch more sweetness both on the nose and on the palate, however I prefer the more mascoline, powerful rionda

  • This is a beautiful barolo, pretty full-bodied, medium red fruited with blueberries on top, great acid, medium-minus tannins at this point in its life, emerging spices and secondary components, I have to learn to ignore CT comments regarding Barolos being ready, and go with my gut and age them 40 years, I've had so many great Barolo's from the 50s and 60s and I don't even know why I drink them from my celler so young when I know I should wait, this is very nice now but I suspect that it will be twice as good in 20 years

  • Brought to Boiler Room in Omaha, decanted about 1 hour - note from memory. Nose: Medium-plus expressiveness, earth, tar, black cherry, black raspberry, tobacco, and leather - classic barolo nose minus the rose florals. Palate: Medium-full bodied, earthy dark red fruit attack, tobacco and spice kick mid-palate, great mid-palate density, still has a strong tannic grip in the back-end revealing remarkable youthfulness for a 14 year old wine. Finish: Medium-plus length dominated by earthy red fruits and slightly puckering tannins.
