  • Burgundy Night: Pick the Grand Cru (Extra Space): Tasted blind. Pop and poured.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of granite minerality, tea leaves, dark earth, dark red cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red cherries, redcurrant, ripe strawberry, earth, minerality, and a slight meatiness. Long finish.
Very good quality. Interesting dark character here for a Volnay. Possibly the iron in the Fremiets soil leads to more structure and muscularity and maybe the darker character. No doubt still has the elegance of Volnay though. Will develop well over the next 5+ years.
